What is Newport Beach Mediation?

NBM Explains it all

Newport Beach Mediation (NBM) is an all encompassing mediation LLC founded by Ronnie Weinstein in 1999. NBM prides itself on creating a low stress alternative to expensive and complex legal proceedings. NBM also keeps professional or corporate disputes from the public eye and out of the media while maintaining a relaxed environment. Mediation helps parties avoid the escalation of community and family altercations while sheltering children from the impact and pressures of conflict. This approach to conflict resolution entails utmost confidentiality as each party works to reach a fair resolution. Unless a resolution is mutually agreed upon, the mediation process is nonbinding and not admissible in court.

The Role of a Mediator is that of a neutral individual equipped with the skill set necessary to create common ground between dissenting parties and to facilitate an amicable resolution. Mediators use various techniques to open, or improve, dialogue and empathy between disputants, aiming to help the parties reach an agreement.

Ronnie Weinstein has over 20 years of mediation experience. Ronnie's mediated cases ranging from medical malpractice to homeowners associations to marital disputes to his primary expertise in all aspects of professional sports.

NBM never considers any dispute too trivial for resolution.

In 1999, Ronnie relocated to the the State of Washington and chose to step away from sports management & dedicate his attentions to developing his mediation practice. In Washington, he was fortunate enough to forge solid friendships with a number of Washington State Superior Court Judges who advised him and guided him in his quest to become an effective mediator. At their urging, Ronnie founded Sound Mediation which he then renamed Newport Beach Mediation, LLC upon relocating back to Southern California in 2005. Thus establishing Newport Beach Mediation as a premier entity in the Southern California mediation community.

In 2017, Ronnie, channeled his mediation skills back into the world of professional sports. This came by way of his then 38 year relationship with Los Angeles Lakers and the Buss family. In February of that year Johnny & Jeanie Buss, with the cooperation of the Lakers Legal Department, reached out to Ronnie requesting that he take an active role & intervene in order to prevent any escalation and legal challenges within the Buss/Laker Family. Since that day, Ronnie has worked closely with both of them on a number of fronts from the family, to the Los Angeles Lakers, to Johnny Buss's long time love of comedy which resulted in him purchasing the world renowned comedy club, The Ice House in Pasadena. In light of Ronnie’s long running history with Dr. Jerry Buss, Ronnie considers his accomplishments within the Buss family some of the most personally rewarding of his entire career.

Jerry Buss and Jerry Colangelo, then owner of the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks, lured Ronnie back into the professional sports field in 1991. With their guidance, Ronnie built what many will argue was the most successful professional sports league, at inception, ever created in the United States; the Continental Indoor Soccer League, CISL.Ronnie and his legal staff were the first professional sports entity to develop what is now commonly known as the single entity formula. The CISL consisted of 15 teams primarily made up of NBA and NHL owners along with a number of entrepreneurs throughout the US and Mexico. The CISL was the first professional sports league in North America to have teams from Mexico.

As founder and Commissioner of the League for its entirety, Ronnie oversaw and was involved in every aspect of the league from national marketing and advertising to national television negotiations to player/management disputes. Under Ronnie’s leadership, the CISL had over 50 percent of its teams turning a profit by year three, secured a 3 year nation wide deal with Fox Sports to televise prime time and negotiated a 3 year, multi-million dollar, deal with General Motors. Ronnie's mediation skills truly became fine tuned while playing the middleman in all league disputes and negotiations. During his tenure as Commissioner, Ronnie served on the Board of the United States Soccer Federation for the duration of the CISL.
